In partnership with Ricardo, South Coast Science is supplying 43 Praxis/Urban sensors to the 10 Greater Manchester local authorities for use in a research project co-ordinated by Transport for Greater Manchester. The contract will run for up to five years.
Air Quality and Environment specialist Ricardo has been working with local and city authorities for over 35 years. From the wide portfolio of air quality monitors it works with, Ricardo selected South Coast Science as the exclusive supplier for this groundbreaking work.

The devices supplied will be monitoring particulate (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), nitrogen oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO) and ozone (O3). Ten of the 43 devices will also monitor carbon dioxide (CO2), one for each local authority across the city-region.

The monitors comply with MCERTS indicative for particulates, a key factor during the selection criteria. Although not specified as part of the tender requirement, the devices also comply with Class 1 Indicative Classification under the European Standardisation Committee (CEN) Technical Specification (TS 17660-1) for monitoring of gases.

“Ricardo has used South Coast Science sensors for many years, the products have proven to be reliable and provide a useful resource.”

David Madle, Associate Director, Ricardo.
“Improving the air people breathe is a priority for Greater Manchester. The South Coast Science units will provide reliable data for Greater Manchester to better understand the impact of emissions from domestic burning on air quality, how those emissions can be reduced, and inform future policy development.”
